Explain what it means to be ethical as it relates to personal, academic, and professional growth.

My view and of ethical grounds is conducting myself according to the expected norms of behaviors by the society I am living within. To me being ethical is doing what’s right even when nobody is paying attention. These expectations are also in the academic world where ethical behavior requires a person to be studied of the rules and regulations guiding their academic works, conduct, and acceptable academic behaviors such as honesty and non-plagiarism. To me an ethical person is going by standards they wish to live up to. This can be being trustworthy or honest about things. (Gresham, 1985)

Provide at least one ethical dilemma you have encountered and describe how the issue was resolved

An ethical dilemma that I recall is me working on my last job that requires you to sometimes work hours after you scheduled time. The owners at the time did not run the business correctly but more of trying not to hire many people and work the ones they had as a slave. This situation caused me not to be interested in the job due to the long hours and time away from my son. The issue was solved by the few workers coming together threating to not work for the company any longer and making them hire other people and train them as well.

Describe how your general education courses have influenced your ethical values.

I personally don’t think that my education has changes my way of life nor my view of life. I have instilled in me to treat others the way you wish to be treated. I believe without the education that I have, I can still carry those value. I do not believe an education determine who or what we are.

Explain why a college-educated person might have different duties to society than someone not as educated.

A person with a higher education have access to better job opportunities and other tool for the real world. As for a person without education it is very difficult for them to have these tool and get a job. This Is a touchy discussion for me. Which I am not trying to be in a debate but more of my opinion. You could have the most the smartest person and a person that is not educated and they both can have duties within society. I do understand that we all have choices to better ourselves and to educate ourselves but we must remember that having an education does not make the person that I am today. I could find other ways to enhance society. A college-educated person will have an extensive education and therefore they would have a better understanding of certain subject such as: being a doctor, lawyer, etc. Therefore, their responsibilities to society would be different than someone without the college education.
